The DFE and NGA reccomend having an external review every 3-4 years.
As a Diocese, we offer an external governance review service, which involves reviewing paperwork as well as speaking with governors and school leaders. We provide a written report and follow-up support from your adviser to help you plan next steps.
What does our Governance Review involve?
Unlike other governance reviews services, we will also look at the board's effectiveness in fulfilling their church school responsibilities.

A detailed look at the last 12 months governance paperwork, minutes, agendas and reports.

An anonymised survey about governance to members of the board, staff and parents.

A day in school with advisers who will meet with a range of governors with different responsibilities, such as the chair, finance, safeguarding and curriculum.

A meeting with school leaders to talk about governance from their perspective.

You will receive a two page report, celebrating all you do well and with some suggestions of next steps.

Your named adviser will follow the review with a visit to the board to help pull together a governance development plan.
