Meet our keynote speakers for 2024

Gary Aubin

Education Endowment Foundation: SEND Content Specialist, Panel Member of the government's Curriculum and Assessment Review, Author and Practitioner.

Gary Aubin is the author of The Lone SENDCO: a Handbook of 300 Questions and Answers for the busy SENDCO. He is the SEND Content Specialist for the Education Endowment Foundation. He is also a member of the panel reviewing Curriculum and Assessment on behalf of the government. Gary has spoken with hundreds of school leaders about the evidence base behind high-quality teaching for SEND. He also authors the SEND Matters UK blog. Gary's experience is current and relevant. He is also Head of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities for a Multi Academy Trust. A secondary teacher, former primary and secondary SENDCO and former secondary Head of Year.

Adele Bates

International Behaviour and Education Specialist

Adele Bates empowers school leaders and teachers to support pupils with behavioural needs and SEMH to thrive with their education. She’s an award winning International Keynote Speaker, a featured expert on teenagers and behaviour for BBC Radio 4, the author of 'Miss, I don’t Give A Sh*t,” Engaging with Challenging Behaviour in Schools,' and is a fully funded international researcher in Finland, the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica on Behaviour & Inclusion, as well as teaching for nearly 20 years

Jeffrey Boakye

Expert in Race, Masculinity and Popular Culture in Education. Jeffrey is also a teacher, author and broadcaster

Jeffrey Boakye is an author, broadcaster, educator and journalist with a particular interest in issues surrounding race, masculinity, education and popular culture. Originally from Brixton in London, Jeffrey has taught secondary English for fifteen years. He is senior teaching fellow at the University of Manchester and has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Leicester. Jeffrey's books include: Hold Tight: Black Masculinity, Millennials and the Meaning of Grime; Black, Listed: Black British Culture Explored; What is Masculinity? Why Does it Matter? And Other Big Questions; Musical Truth, Musical World, I Heard What You Said, and Kofi and the Rap Battle Summer. He is also the co-presenter of BBC Radio 4's double award-winning Add to Playlist. Jeffrey now lives in Yorkshire with his wife and two sons.

Marc Rowland

The nations foremost expert on effective use of the pupil premium. Author and adviser to governments, trusts and schools.

Marc Rowland is a foremost expert on the effective use of the Pupil Premium and improving outcomes for disadvantaged learners. He is or has worked with the DfE, the Jersey government, numerous local authorities and over 500 individual schools to support them with their strategies to improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils. His work with the Jersey government on the introduction and implementation of a ‘Jersey Pupil Premium’ led to marked improvement in outcomes for disadvantaged pupils there. Marc is currently the adviser for improving outcomes for disadvantaged learners for the Unity Schools Partnership. He is also working with the Education Endowment Foundation’s national Research School Network on the roll out of their national Pupil Premium training programme and on a range of programmes focused on educational disadvantage nationally. Marc has spoken to approximately 10,000 school leaders at conferences on Pupil Premium, from Northumberland to Cornwall.
